starting over again... and again...
Lets try again, shall we? Through the freshly discovered delights of blogging by email Im going to try bring this little diary back to life - for myself and myself alone. I remember finding diarys from when I left ireland in 93, my years in Amsterdam and Australia, marvelling at the tapestry of memories that cascasded from their pages and promising to get back to at the very least recording what went on when. Things like facebook and myspace, while useful to a degree, just dont capture the 'story' that a blog does if its a good chronological record of events. So here goes.
Starting with a little update:
Ive been in my new home for (doing the sums on my fingers, oct 07 to april 09... holy fuck) 17 months now. Life here is as sweet as honey. Kell has been through a sticky end of 08 and start to 09 but who hasnt in the current climate. There are real green-shoots of something properly exciting developing at the moment. Peoples jobs are safe and it feels like we're standing right at the razors-edge of something very big. I know we've been here before. Last time we were probably nixed by a mere 24 hours - had black wednesday been black thursday we may already have had a big brother clasping us close to their bosom. That said, this period now is really re-energising us and we're going to come out if it fitter, leaner and stronger - Im convinced of it.
Im getting home to ireland probably 8-9 times a year, sometimes more. And the months that I dont get over are usually filled with visiting parents, friends or siblings thankfully.
the summer promises a trip to Scotland with Mam & Dad, a road trip to Italy with Ev, a long weekend to Eastern Europe with Senan hopefully and who knows what else in between.
Right now Im making a real concerted effort to get rid of my gas-guzzling power cars and get my hands on a high mpg diesel. Watch this space. And Id also like to buy a banger campervan and use it to head off on Friday evenings and spend weekends really getting into the corners of this beautiful country.
More to follow...
